The Blue Bridge Bar & Restaurant
The Restaurant and Bar
Welcome to the Blue Bridge. Lying two miles to the west of Chelmsford in the quiet and peaceful village of Writtle.
Named in the Little Domesday Book, as a Royal demesne/manor of 194 households, the village is the site of one of King John's hunting lodges, sited within the grounds of Writtle College around 1210 A.D.
We offer our delicious A'la Carte menu Monday to Saturday lunch and dinner, alongside excellent value set menus*. Traditional Sunday lunch is accompanied by A'la Carte specials, (well behaved children are welcome on Sundays)
Our ethos combines over 20 years of knowledge and experience with a passion for food and service with the transformation of the once ageing cock and bell public house into a modern and inviting restaurant with a large bar area.
The extensive selection of fine wines, beers, spirits and cocktails are brought to you by our owner, a Champagne and wine connoisseur who regularly scours the major and independent vineyards alike for the finest varieties available in the world today.
Join us every Friday and Saturday evening for live entertainment with one of our resident artists (please see our social networking feeds for updates as to ‘what’s on’)
Head Chef
The wonderful selection of food on the menu has been crafted to perfection by our award-winning chef, Colin Jennings. Colin has had many years of experience in top restaurants, gentlemen's clubs and hotel kitchens across the South East, and it has earned him numerous officially recognised commendations for the consistently high standards of cuisine on offer under his brigade.
Our Suppliers
All of our ingredients are sourced as locally and responsibly as possible with our major emphasis placed on the quality of the products we use.
Our fish supplier has around 30 vessels in UK waters and a direct supply chain to our restaurant, without going through markets we are able to source some of the best and freshest fish and seafood available in the country.
Our butcher is based in Chelmsford and supplies us with the top specification grass fed beef and our free range chickens, all of the pork we use is from Tamworth pigs.
In our quest for excellence even down to the smallest of details, during the English asparagus season we use Lashes Farm in Navestock to supply us with their asparagus and our free range eggs.
Summer Terrace
We have a large decked area to the rear of the restaurant where weather permitting, guests are welcome to either enjoy a pre or after dinner drink, we also serve food at lunchtimes under large shaded parasols.
Dietary Requirements
We understand the importance of dealing with dietary requests due to allergies and intolerances, the majority of our dishes can be adapted according to individual requirements. Please mention upon booking and when you are dining with us we can ensure that your meal has been created in a sympathetic way.
